The time has come to start thinking about betting on this years world cup. I have not studied any of the data or taken any advice from anyone yet so I have little to offer but I will be interested in hearing what predictions you have to make.

Some people have written England off after Rooney got injured. Some people still feel they have a chance.

I would think that some of the betting firms will offer some good World Cup focused promotions but as yet I have not been contacted about any. I would hold off betting (unless the odds are too good to miss) until you get some sort of idea what sort of online deals you can get for betting on the world cup. Online Bookies should reckon on gaining some long term business and may be willing to give some sweet deals to try to secure their share of it.

Well I have put $$ on England to win. I am scottish and feel that winning money on England is the only way that the next 30 years would be bearable - we scots have had 30 years hearing about 1966, rugby world cups, the ashes etc. I am half english anyway so this helps me want to support them a little bit more as well. I got 7-1 which I do not realistically think is good value.

This was just a tiny bet - my main bets will be on group forecasts. I have gone for brazil 1st croatia 2nd which I think is reasonably safe but the odds are pretty short. I will put one more bet on this and am still a bit undecided. I like England 1st sweden 2nd but the odds seem a little poor and I might go for one of the other groups.

I have also put small bets on mexico to get to semis and larson to be top scorer.

What are you guys going for?

Ukraine finished top of their group in qualifiers - and their group had some fairly strong footballing nations in it.

They have Spain and Saudi in there group but look good to qualify at least in second place. The odds of them winning it are 66-1 but considering they are almost a shoe in for the last 16 they might well represent decent value for some betting if not to win then to reach the quarters etc (4-1 to be eliminated in the quarters, 10-1 semis)

This does not quite seem to me to be brilliant odds but it is certainly worth a though
