I am not a big fan of satelite tournaments. You either get entry into a big event OR you go home with nothing. If you do not take down the big event then satelites largely will just chip away at your bankroll if you let them.

I have used satelites to qualify for events that I had intended to play in anyway and I think this is a good way of approaching them.

Poker stars though is a little bit different because

a) you can cash out the satelite for tourney chips
b) it is easy to sell satelites for poker stars games if you so wish.

Poker stars is running a lot of 11$ and 16$ double shootouts and on the whole the standard is pretty low. You see some pretty crazy play going on in these games. At certain times of the day people are chasing with ANYTHING and you can have a definate edge over your opponents. Often there is money going if you get through the first round (70$ for instance) and first gets you either a 620$ ticket or a 215 ticket depending on the competition in question.

To really exploit these games you need to play quite solid early on as lots of crazy plays will be taking place. You must be a good HU and short stacked player. If you have these though and a big bank balance then these tourneys - as with many of the stars satelite tourneys are well worth giving a try.

they have recently started tiny stakes TRIPLE SHOOTOUTS to their big weekend event. If these were not turbos i would give them a try even though i dont like playing with less than a 10$ buy in these do look a good investment. Still turbos need a little to much luck to win for me to want to be involved in something dependant on 2 wins to get anything worthwhile. Still this is something that i think will appeal to a lot of poor players so should be potentially easy money even in turbo format.

Anything that gives you T$ rather than W$ has some decent value as you can cash it in for tournament chips that you can use in any tournament. If you are a solid player then this should be worth pretty much the equivalent of real money (even if it sells for 10% less) as for the W$ though these are only of use in my view if you want to play in WSOP or WSOOP events as otherwise they can only be cashed out (via intermediaries) at arround 80% of W$ value. That is quite a big drop so i wouldnt get involved. Still if you are willing to play in the cheaper WSOOP buy ins or want a shot at the big time they might be worth while. Remember you can set your own satellite program by cashing in W$ and using them in different W$ applicable games
