Calling preflop was pretty borderline but I dont mind calling in this kind of hand when I have position. My problem was that I read Taylor as having a PP less than KK and overlooked qq. I think he would have reraised more earlier with aq OR reraised on the flop with AQ. This last bit is crutial. With 2 of a suit on the flop there was a good deal of scope to protect the hand and out price me from staying in if I have a flush draw. I overlooked the QQ holding in my equation. I thought lower trips were possible but was willing to take the risk. However you view this my re-raise serves little purpose. AK might fold, 99 might fold but these are hands I am not too worried about. The only hand he could have that would justify my play is flush draw. And i just dont think he has it.
This was a 10$ tournament - being a little out of poker at the moment I am staying away from my normal 30-100$ MTTs. This is precisely the sort of misplaying of a hand that you just cannot afford to make.
I rerallied and went on to finish ITM in this one - but in a higher buy in I wouldnt have been given as many subsequent oppertunities to get chips.
top pair second best kicker is a good hand but not one I would normally risk many chips on without a really good read. My problem was my analysis was flawed, overlooking the QQ holding.
